I teach singing.
My teaching is guided by the particular questions & goals of each individual student and by the understanding that teaching & learning are collaborative process.
I am committed to student wellbeing and to the maintenance of a safe, supportive and steadfastly respectful teaching & learning environment.
My teaching is guided by and celebrates human diversity and seeks better to understand the true (and often hidden and suppressed) diversity of our repertoires of music & text.
Inspired by the history of the singerly craft and by an awareness of lineage, I walk in the footsteps of my own teachers and their teachers before them.
As a teacher & singer, and in all my activities, I am guided by a fundamental awe & gratitude in the presence of human beings. My awe & gratitude are directed by the principles of the Alexander Technique and its gentle questions like ‘what would happen if I were to allow myself to free…’.
I believe that the study & practice of singing can be life-affirming and that singing can help us to understand deeply & clearly what it is that we wish to say.
I believe that the study & practice of singing can help us, also, to listen more deeply & clearly.
In my teaching, as in all my music-making, I work in a community of practice, and I work to engage my students in community.
